Statement of Purpose
We are the elected representatives of our Community, we aim to provide leadership in shaping and developing Pokeno in partnership with Waikato District Council and others.
I moved to Pokeno six years ago and settled into the Kowhai Downs area. We were the second house that was built in that Subdivision
Our family have lived in Pokeno for a long time, our 4 children attended Pokeno Playcentre and Pokeno Primary school, John and I
I have lived in Pokeno for the last 4 years. I was made redundant at the beginning of the pandemic after being a corporate travel
Hi, my name is Janet Baillie. My husband John and our children have been residents of Pokeno for the last 4 years.
I have been in Pokeno since December 2021 so I'm a newbie. I am passionate, committed and driven in all things to make our Community
The Pōkeno Community Committee’s role is to discuss and assist with issues concerning the local community.
These meetings are held in the Pokeno Hall, cnr Market Road and Gt South Road, Pokeno.
All members of the public are invited to attend.
The appointed Council members on this board are Councillor Kandi Ngataki and Councillor Vernon (Vern) Reeve.

Mayor and Councillors
The Waikato District Council is an elected body of 14 representatives - the Mayor and 13 Councillors. The Council is accountable to the ratepayers and residents of the Waikato district for the planning, direction and management of resources to meet the present and future needs of the community.
Jacqui Church is the first female elected Mayor of the Waikato District Council. Prior to her election as Mayor, she represented the Tuakau-Pookeno ward as a Councillor for nine years
Who We Are...
Pōkeno (also known as Pokino) is a fast-growing town in the north of the Waikato District, located 53km southeast of Auckland and 72km north of Hamilton.
Now home to 5,545 people (Statistics 2021), Pōkeno has seen significant growth since just the 500 people who called it home back in 2005. During the past six years from 2014-2021 the township has experienced a 341% population increase, and there is predicted continued growth.
Pōkeno is transforming into a vibrant and people-centric community destinations which hosts a variety of successful businesses and industrial ventures. Waikato District Council is proud to be working alongside the Pōkeno Community Committee and Mana Whenua to retain and enhance the identity of the township.
Known for its phenomenal ice creams, bacon and sausages that have seen people stop during their travels between Hamilton and Auckland, Pōkeno has even been referred to as the ice cream capital of New Zealand!
